Pakistan’s defence strong, nuclear assets in safe hands
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said the country’s defence system is strong and the nuclear assets are in safe hands.
The prime minister, while expressing satisfaction over Pakistan’s technological advancement in the sphere of defence that has made the sovereignty of the country impregnable, said that the nation is proud of engineers, scientists and experts who have evolved the capability indigenously.
He was talking to the newly-appointed Director General Strategic Plans Division (DG SPD) Lieutenant General Mazhar Jamil at the PM House on Wednesday.
General Mazhar briefed the prime minister on the remarkable achievements and future projects of the division. The country’s nuclear, missile and space programme are supervised by the Strategic Plans Division. Matters relating to Pakistan’s nuclear, missile and space programmes came under discussion during the meeting. The Prime Minister House stated that Nawaz appreciated the security and safety mechanism and said that the SPD had been playing an important role in strengthening Pakistan’s defence capabilities.
Lieutenant General Mazhar Jamil thanked the government Jamil thanked the government for reposing confidence in him for assigning him important task and assured the prime minister that he would perform duties to the best of his abilities. The prime minister expressed confidence that under his command the division would continue to work towards this end.
The SPD is an important component of National Command Authority (NCA) which is headed by the prime minister and exercises complete command and control over the country’s nuclear and strategic capability structure.
